★ Rent in Tokyo is expensive. Spend time and money on what you want to do!
2-minute walk from "Waseda University" Toyama Campus, commonly known as "Bunkyan"!
It is used by students who are worried about repetition or students who are far from home. (Everyone is always graduated safely!)
Dormitory only, no private rooms
★ The nearest stations are Waseda station, Nishi-Waseda station, and Takadanobaba station.
★ In this area, there is the home of "Natsume Soseki", and there is a hill called "Natsume Zaka". "Ryunosuke Akutagawa" and "Shiki Masaoka" also lived in this area.
Go Nagai, the creator of "Devilman" and Takagi Boo, one of the members of the regendary comedian unit, also reside in this area. "Tezuka Production" of "Astro Boy" is near Takadanobaba station. Take a walk and explore the area when you have time.
★If you are learning judo, you can go to "Kodokan". And If you are learning Aikido you can go to "Aikikai" from this guesthouse.
★"Tenshiba Guest House" is not a stylish / fancy guest house. It is more like a student dormitory or an old backpacker's inn. Enjoy the guest house life in Tokyo!

Note that we only accept long term(at least one month) guests. We can not charge you daily or weekly basis for the first month.

Facilities

The rooms are dormitory style only. No private room is available.

You can cook at the kitchen and eat at the big comfortable living room.

There is Wireless LAN (Wi-Fi) access in the building as well.

There are both Japanese and foreign guests.

Coin-operated washing machine (100yen). There is also a coin-operated washer / dryer (100 yen per time) on the large roof, so you can dry your laundry and futons comfortably! Some guests enjoy sunbathing, reading and taking a nap.

Working holiday makers, international students, Japanese students, "salary man", freelance workers, and more!

The nearest station is Waseda station.
5 minutes by train to Shinjuku and Ikebukuro! It is near Waseda University.

Waseda has a strong image of a student district because it has Waseda University. In fact, there are plenty of cheap and hearty restaurants for students with low prices. In addition, there are many attractions, historical sites, shrines and gardens. There are many pleasures to feel the season, such as cherry blossoms at the Kanda River and fireflies at Chinzan-so.

FAQ

We have summarized frequently asked questions to TenShiba Guesthouse in Tokyo. Please find the answer to your question here first.

1. Do you accept short term guests?
I am plannning to travel Japan for a couple of weeks and looking for a cheap accommodation.
Our contract is monthly basis, meaning we require the first 30 days rent even if you are staying less than 30 days. However, it can still be cheaper than staying daily basis hostel; if you are staying for about 14 nights at a 3000 yen / night hostel, it would be 42,000 yen while we only charge 32,000 yen (including the maintenance fee) for the same period.
2. Is there a security locker?
Yes, there is. It is 600 yen / month.
3. Do I have to pay the utility fees?
No. It is all included.
4. Is there internet access in the guesthouse?
We provide free Wi-Fi access. Please bring your own device to access to the internet. You are not allowed to connect with LAN cable to your PC, though.
5. Is there any age limit?
No, but we require your parents' permission if you are underage (19-yrs-old or younger). Anybody who can not fend for yourself is not accepted at our guesthouse. The youngest guest is 1 year old. Of course he was with his mother and his mom was here to see her new work place in Tokyo. The oldest guest is 80 years old. She was selling her house and getting ready for her new life at a nursing home. Another example is 16 years old student. She was attending a high school in Tokyo and her parents were worried if she lived by herself.
6. I have quite a lot of stuff. How much lubbage can I bring?
Aproximately 2 to 4 boxes can be stored in your bed space.
7. Can I register as a resident of Shinjuku by using guesthouse address?
Yes, you can. There is a branch office of Shinjuku-ku and you can do the official paper there as well. The main city office is at Kabuki-cho.
8. How long does the opening special price last?
I am planning to go to Tokyo near in the future but don't know the exact date yet. I want to stay when the special offer is still available. How long does it last?
We will keep offering the special price at least until the end of this year.
9. Do you have a private room?
No we don't. We only provide dormitory rooms. We'd like you to meet people from all over the world and experience different culture.
10. Is there a hair dryer?
Yes, there is one in the bath room.
11. Can I park a bicycle or a motorcycle?
No, you can't. There is no parking space for a bicycle or a motorcycle.
12. Do you provide futon, matress, pillow, and sheets?
Yes, we do. Please wash them (sheets) by yourself during your stay.
13. What kinds of people live in the guesthouse?
There are working holiday makers, university students, interns, job seekers, "salary man", artists, backpackers, those who are back in Japan temporarily, and many other kinds of people. There are some people who base on here and travel Japan. People who traveled on the "Peace Boat" lived here as well. Sometimes, married couple come here to live for a while.
14. Can I receive a mail or a package?
Regular mails are delivered to the mail box of the guesthouse. If you are getting something that needs to be received in person, you have to wait and receive it by yourself. If you are in inporting-exporting business and receive exceeding amount of packages, we don't receive or keep them everytime. Please use different address for your business.
15. Is there curfew?
I like to go out drinking and might come home late at night. Is there curfew?
No, there isn't, however, please keep quiet after the light-out(11 p.m.)
16. Can I extend the stay? How much would it be?
I am planning to stay in Tokyo for several months. How would the rent be calculated?
The rent from the second 30 days is 39,000 yen or 36,000 yen, depending on the size of the bed. We will charge daily basis from the second month and it is 1,500 yen / day.
17. When does the rent start? Can I transfer the rent?
When do I pay the rent every month? My work routine is irregular. Can I transfer the rent to your bank account?
The rent period starts from the day you moved in. Please papy the rent every 30 days. If you would like to transfer the money, you have to pay the fee.
18. Is there a bath at the guesthouse or is there a public bath nearby?
It seems that there is a shower in the guesthouse but is there a bath tub? Or is the shower free?
Shower is 100 yen / 15 min. If you want to use bath tub, there are 3 public bath houses in walking distance. It is 520 yen.
19. Is there a washing machine? Can I hang my clothes to dry?
There is a coin-operated-washing machine and dryer. Both are operated by 100 yen. Laundromat is usually by a public bath. They charge 200 yen.
20. Is there air conditioner and heater? Can a resident adjust the temperature of the machine?
It will operate at night during summer and winter. The timer and temperature will be set by a staff. We don't respond to an individual request.
21. Can I use the kitchen? I want to cook by myself and save the food costs.
Yes, you can. There are basic cooking tools such as refregirator, rice cooker, microwave, and so on.
22. Is there female only dormitory?
No, there is no female only dormitory. If you prefer female only share house, please consider one of our branch, "Share House Tama", near Otsuka station.
23. Who cleans the room / house?
Helper staffs clean the common area. Please clean your own bed space by yourself.
24. Are there grocery store or convenience store near by?
They are all located in walking distance. SEVEN ELEVEN is one minute, Family Mart 3 minutes, and Santoku (Grocery store) is about 5 minutes from the guesthouse.
25. Is it safe to walk around at night near the guesthouse?
There are many restaurants and street lights around Kagurazaka and Waseda area. People walk around pretty late at night so it is quite safe.
26. Do you hold any tour or activity?
When I stayed at a guethouse in Okinawa, there were some event or party and I enjoyed a lot. Do you hold any party or tour?
We hold Hanami party, fireworks viewing, Mt. Fuji climbing, and Christmas party. Guests themselves hold parties.
27. Is it close to downtown?
I go to Tokyo for work. Is it located in convenient area?
Yes, it is close to down town. The closest station is Kagurazaka on Tokyo Metro Tozai line and it is 3 min. on foot. There are other alternative as well; Edogawabashi sta. on Metro Yurakucho line is about 5min. walk, Ushigome-kagurazaka on Toei Oedo line is about 10 min walk, Iidabashi station on JR Sobu line is about 20 min. walk.. There is a bus line as well which directly goes downtown Shinjuku.
28. How long does it take to go to a touristic spot?
I am going to Tokyo with the working holiday visa and wishing to do some sight seeing when I don't work. How far is it to go to sight seeing spot?
There are many touristic spots. For example, from Edogawabashi sta. to Ikebukuro, it is 8 min., from Kagurazaka sta. to Tokyo tower (Kamiyacho sta.) is 16 min., to Shibuya is 16 min., to Harajuku is 15 min., to Shinjuku is 10 min., to Ginza is 15 min., to Asakusa is 17 min., to Skytree (Oshiage) is 20 min., and to Roppongi is 20 min.
29. Can I smoke in the guesthouse?
There are many non-smoking places recently. Is there any area where I can smoke?
It is non-smoking inside the building. You can smoke outside and on the rooftop.
30. What time can I check in?
Our business hour is from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., however, we can arrange the time if you tell us in advance. Please contact about it first.
31. Can I charge my cell-phone in my bed?
Is there an outlet and a light in each bed?
There are two outlets in each bed.
32. Is there parking space?
I am planning to drive my car to Tokyo. Can I park my car?
We don't have a parking space. Please use a coin-operated parking near our guesthouse. There are monthly parking as well but please reserve it by yourself in advance.

TenShiba Guesthouse in Tokyo stipulates the following policies and strives for its implementation.
  1. We will comply with laws and other norms concerning personal information protection.
  2. We will handle personal information within the range of purpose of use specified to the customer clearly. We do not collect and use personal information from customers without permission. Even if you obtain consent, we use it only within the scope of consent.
  3. We establish internal control system and clarify responsibility sharing.
  4. We will take reasonable safety measures against risks related to personal information such as unauthorized access to personal information, loss, destruction, falsification and leakage.
  5. We will not provide personal information to any third party other than the joint user who indicated at the time of acquisition without obtaining the consent of the person except when it is accepted as an exception under the law.
